The Hidden Patterns That Keep You Stuck: An Introduction to Family and Systemic Constellations

You did not arrive in this world alone. You arrived as part of a system, a family that carried its own history, its own wounds, its own unfinished business long before you were born. Family and Systemic Constellations is the work of making that visible.

What is Family and Systemic Constellations?

Family and Systemic Constellations is a therapeutic approach that explores the hidden dynamics within the systems we belong to. It is based on the understanding that we are not separate individuals and we are part of larger systems, whether that is our family, ancestors, our workplace, our school, or any group we have been meaningfully part of. And within those systems, unresolved pain, trauma, and entanglements can persist, often unconsciously, affecting the people within them.

The patterns you experience in your own life and the relationships that don't work, the success that feels out of reach, the anxiety that has no clear source and may not have originated with you. You may be carrying something that belonged to someone before you.

This is not a metaphor. It is what shows up, again and again, in Family and Systemic Constellations work.

Where does it come from?

Family and Systemic Constellations was developed in the latter half of the 20th century and has been shaped by many practitioners and researchers over the decades. It draws on systemic family therapy, phenomenological philosophy, and the lived experience of thousands of clients and facilitators worldwide. Today it is practiced in many forms, such as in groups, in individual sessions, and in combination with other healing modalities, which is continuously evolving.

What all these forms share is a central insight where every system has its own intelligence, and when something is excluded, denied or unresolved within it, that energy seeks expression, often through the people who come later.

What gets passed down and what gets carried in other systems?

Within a family system, certain events and experiences can create what we call entanglements where the natural flow of life has been interrupted. These can include:

Trauma, loss, or tragedy that was never fully grieved. Family members who were excluded, forgotten, or not spoken about, "secrets" that were kept for generations, patterns of abuse, addiction, or illness, difficult events such as early death, migration or war...

When these experiences go unacknowledged, they do not disappear. They live on in the system and often in the people who came after, who may find themselves unconsciously repeating or carrying what was never resolved.

You may not know the full history of your family. You may never have been told about the miscarriage, the brother who was estranged, the grandfather who lost everything. And yet your body, your choices, and your life patterns may be speaking that history fluently.

The same principle applies beyond the family. In work systems, schools, organizations, unresolved dynamics, such as a founder's unacknowledged failure, a colleague who was treated unjustly, a company built on something that was never named... These kinds of situations can create patterns that affect everyone within that system. If you feel persistently out of place at work, if teams keep breaking down in the same way, if success in a certain environment always seems to slip away, the systemic lens can reveal what the personal lens cannot.

What happens in a session?

Individual Family and Systemic Constellation sessions with me work as follows:

First, we have a conversation. You share what you would like to work on, such as a recurring struggle, a relationship pattern or a blockage you may feel in your life and together we identify what we want to bring into the constellation. We write an intention together about what it is that we would like to heal within the system.

Then, working with representatives (people, objects and/or figures, or simply your sense of where people belong in the space), we set up a representation of your system. What happens next is often remarkable of the constellation, as it reveals the hidden order of who is out of place, what has been excluded, where the entanglement lies.

From there, we work with what emerges. Movements, acknowledgments, healing sentences, everything that allows the system to find a new order and the person to step into their own life more fully.

Sessions are done online or in person, one to one or in a group setting, and are deeply personal.

What can Family and Systemic Constellations help with?

People come to me with many different experiences. Common themes include:

Feeling unable to move forward despite doing a lot of personal work, repeating the same relationship dynamics across different partners, unexplained depression, anxiety, or heaviness that has no clear cause, difficulty with money, success, or receiving, complex family relationships and estrangements, persistent difficulties in work environments or organizations, grief that feels bigger than one person's life, a sense of not belonging, or of carrying a burden that isn't yours...

How is it different from ThetaHealing®?

Both modalities work at a deep level and complement each other beautifully. ThetaHealing® focuses primarily on the your subconscious beliefs, the programs running in your own mind and body. Family and Systemic Constellations zooms out to the wider system, the family or organizational field you belong to, and what has been carried through it.

In practice, I often find that the two work together naturally. A constellation may reveal and heal what is entangled in the system; a ThetaHealing® session helps clear subconscious beliefs around the same issue. Together they offer one of the most complete approaches to healing I have encountered.

Is this right for you?

If you have done a significant amount of inner work and still feel stuck, Family and Systemic Constellations may be the missing piece. It is particularly powerful for people who sense that their patterns go deeper than the personal that something systemic is at play and who are ready to approach healing from that wider perspective.

You do not need to have a difficult family history to benefit. The work is relevant for anyone who is part of a system, which includes all of us.
